Development of an XXL tool for weights up to 4,000 t

The SpanSet Axzion GmbH project addresses the development of the basic design and structural construction of modular components for an XXL tool with a load capacity of up to 4,000 t (WLL).

The focus is on a modular, transportable system architecture, as well as on the development of testing technology and the establishment of a procedure for testing the next generation of XXL tools.

In the first few months of the project, the design specifications and specific requirements of the offshore XXL generation will be systematized, defined, and analyzed. This includes the evaluation of market requirements and standards, the selection and testing of standard and connecting elements, and the analysis of hydraulic and drive components.

Furthermore, mechanical loads and stresses will be evaluated in order to derive resistance values and required cross-sections. Based on this, test requirements for load tests, including safety factors, will be defined. In addition, suitable manufacturing technologies and chains will be evaluated and a scalable production and logistics concept will be developed to optimize cost-effectiveness and quality.
